Manchester United confirm shirt numbers for summer signings Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof

Manchester United have announced summer signing Romelu Lukaku will be handed the famous number nine shirt while Victor Lindelof will take the vacant number two jersey.

Lukaku arrived in a £75million move from Everton last week and has taken over the shirt from Zlatan Ibrahimovic who left the club during the summer.

The Belgian forward certainly has big shoes to fill after Ibrahimovic found the net 28 times last season and became a fans favourite at Old Trafford.

Lukaku is expected to make his United debut against LA Galaxy on Saturday night in Los Angeles and will relish the chance to wear the number nine shirt next season.

Fellow summer signing Lindelof has taken the vacant number two shirt and is no stranger to the number having worn it for Sweden.

Mirror Football reported that United accidentally revealed his number when he flew out with the squad to America as all the players boarded the plane with their bags and their number on it.

The talented defender could be seen with the number two on his bag and United have now confirmed the news.

Lindelof completed his £31million move from Benfica to Old Trafford last month when he became Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer.

The Swedish international is relishing the chance to make his debut for the Reds this weekend and Mourinho is expecting big things from the 22-year-old who earned rave reviews for the Portuguese giants last season.

Unites are embarking on a five-game tour in America and will also face Real Salt Lake, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
