Mkhitaryan sets Manchester United target ahead of next season

Manchester United playmaker, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, has said they intend to “fight for the title” next season. United won three trophies in Jose Mourinho’s first year at the club. However, Mkhitaryan is aware that more is expected after Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League success. “The Champions League is where Manchester United belongs and we are all happy to be playing in this great competition again. “For the new season we definitely want to fight for the title. “For the Super Cup, it should be a fantastic game against Real Madrid!” the Armenia international told the club’s official website. Veteran Nollywood actor, Victor Eze dead

A popular Nollywood actor, script writer and producer, Victor Okechukwu Eze is dead. He became famous for the role of Alika in Fuji House of Commotion. The actor was based in Ikorodu Lagos but relocated to his village in the South East in 2011 when he could no longer afford to live in Lagos due to his battle with stroke. His death was confirmed by the former President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Segun Arinze. Eze, who is OAU graduate and the founder of Vickez Productions died last night in his home town. Ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Thin Tall Tony also wrote, “Was looking like a great day until I heard about your passing sir. “He (Mr Eze), ladies and gentlemen, has been my biggest influence in characters on stage (he was too good on stage and a Lord in switching roles) he could play 6 roles in one production and you couldn’t tell the difference. “We dancers, stage actors from the national theatre will always miss you.”

FG commences training of 7,500 tax advocates

The Federal Ministry of Finance has commenced training of 7,500 graduates to be deployed in rural communities as tax advocates. Dani Alves has revealed that he turned down a better deal with Chelsea to sign for Manchester City. Alves is set to reunite with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad and admits that he could have easily been lining up for the Premier League champions next season. Real Madrid midfielder, James Rodriguez, has agreed personal terms with Manchester United. Diario Gol reports that the Colombia international is so desperate to join the Premier League side. A source in the legal unit of INEC, explained that there are at least three precedents to follow in dealing with the case. “INEC would go ahead to conduct the referendum in so far as INEC is able to verify or ascertain the genuineness of the signatures. The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun has disclosed that tax defaulters in the country risk at least five years jail and asset forfeiture. Her warning is coming even as the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will on Thursday, June 29, launch the Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS), a new tax reform programme of the Federal Government aimed at increasing tax awareness and compliance. The Minister, in a statement in Abuja yesterday said: “Punishment for evasion is severe. All tax evaders, when identified, are subject to the full force of Nigerian and international law, including imprisonment of up to five years. A preacher identified as Nnamani, has been hacked to death by gangsters for telling them to repent. The incident happened in Ife, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged GCE candidates to endeavour to collect their certificates within four years of writing the examination as any delay beyond that will attract custody fee. Demianus Ojijeogu, the Head of Public Affairs Department, WAEC, Nigeria disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, commonly referred to as WAEC GCE, is usually taken in November/December every year. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday said it has informed Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye about the process of his recall. The electoral body disclosed that the decision to notify the Senator of the demand of his people was taken at its meeting held in Abuja. The Commission said the meeting was held following its receipt of petition submitted by voters in Melaye’s zone which was deliberated on. INEC’s National Commissioner and member Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, made the disclosure in Abuja. Six European countries deport 34 Nigerians

No fewer than 34 Nigerians arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos on Thursday after their deportation from six European countries for violating immigration laws. The Nigerians were deported from Switzerland, Germany, Iceland, Austria, Belgium and Hungary. The deportees, comprising of 32 males and two females, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos at about 6.30am on board a chartered Airblue Panorama aircraft. They were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) , the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Police. Spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the deportation to aviation correspondents.

Olumide Odimayo  A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, party in Ondo state, Olumide Odimayo, aka “Londoner” who was kidnapped last week Thursday by unknown gunmen at his hometown in Igbotu has been found dead. Suicide bombers kill 16 in NE Nigeria: emergency services

At least 16 people were killed in suicide bomb attacks near a camp for those made homeless by Boko Haram violence in northeast Nigeria, emergency services said on Monday. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the attacks took place at about 8:45 pm on Sunday close to the Dalori camp at Kofa village, near the Borno state capital Maiduguri. NEMA northeast region spokesman Abdulkadir Ibrahim said two female suicide bombers tried to get into the camp but were thwarted by security personnel. "Two other female suicide bombers also detonated their explosives at the adjoining Dalori Kofa village, where they killed 16 people," he added in a statement. Earlier tolls given by local people said at least 12 or 13 people had been killed but Abdulkadir said three of those injured and taken to hospital had since died. Kogi government denies plan to replace striking doctors

Nigeria-Doctors The Kogi Government said on Monday it had no plan to sack the 163 medical doctors in its pay roll. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Audu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja that the those peddling the rumour were mischief makers. Audu said that, rather, the government would recruit 230 health personnel, to complement existing ones. “The rumour of planned replacement of striking doctors is an erroneous impression emanating from trouble peddlers and mischief makers,’’ he said. NAN reports that the Kogi chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) recently accused the government of planning to recruit fresh doctors to replace those on strike. LAGOS, June 19 (Reuters) - Nigeria's central bank plans to sell $100 million at a special foreign currency auction on Monday, the bank said as part of its efforts to improve dollar liquidity and reduce pressure on the local naira currency. In a notice to commercial lenders, the regulator said the dollar auction would be both for spot and forward deals which would be settled within the next 60 days. Nigeria is battling a currency crisis brought on by low oil prices, which has tipped its economy into recession and created chronic dollar shortages. Africa's biggest economy wants to attract foreign investors and at same time maintain a strong currency to ward off inflation.
