Jose Mourinho expecting Memphis Depay exit in January

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he expects Memphis Depay to leave the club during the January transfer window. The 22-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and is yet to start a Premier League match since Mourinho's arrival in the summer. Depay has not even been included in a matchday squad in the league for more than a month, and Mourinho admitted that his past team selections have been based on the assumption that the winger will leave in January. "I have to say that in the past couple of months my decisions in relation to Memphis were influenced by the feelings and information that he would like to leave in January and that we were going to have a real offer that we would be willing to accept," he told reporters. "That obviously influences me. If I know, if I have the feeling that a player is leaving - if I have to give chances and develop other players - then I go to [Jesse] Lingard, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan, [Anthony]

Police make 50 arrests after raid on Nigerian drug ring in Vienna, Austria

Police in Vienna on Thursday, December 29th, arrested 50 people in connection with a Nigerian drug ring which operated in the Austrian capital. The drugs were mainly sold in Vienna by Nigerian dealers. Detective Georg Rabensteiner said that 100 kilos of drugs would "cover" demand in Vienna for a few months. Police first became aware of the gang's existence at the end of 2012, when a Nigerian man was caught smuggling €250,000 in cash hidden within cars which were brought from Vienna to Nigeria. Arrested at 19 by regime forces in Aleppo in July 2012, Salhani has now spent her university years in a series of shadowy government detention centres. She was convicted of supporting "terrorists", but according to friend Mohammad Shbeeb, Salhani was always peaceful. Before her detention, the Free Syrian Army had recently taken certain areas in and around Aleppo, prompting retaliatory government air strikes. Salhani, an engineering student who had been an active participant in civil demonstrations against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, took food to those displaced by the heavy fighting and helped them to find sh

CBN Fails To Print Lesser Naira Denominations In One Year

The Central Bank of Nigeria has not printed small naira denominations for about a year now, causing the scarcity of the notes in the economy, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Sources at the CBN hinted that for a year now, the apex bank had not awarded contracts for the printing of the notes such as N5, N10, N20 and N50, which was usually done abroad. NAN gathered that the recently printed notes in circulation, N200, N500 and N1,000, were produced by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc. The NSPM produces currency notes and coins for the CBN and a wide range of security documents for the federal, state and local government establishments, commercial banks and blue chip companies. According to the NSPM website, the company has the ability to print over 40 million notes weekly. However, the sources said the high cost of printing banknotes was the reason the apex bank did not give out contracts for their production. “The cost of printing N50 is almost the same as N1,000. FG recovers 40 SUVs from ex-perm sec, NLC urges probe

The Federal Government said on Thursday that it had recovered 40 brand new SUV cars from a former permanent secretary. It said that the unnamed former permanent secretary appropriated the vehicles to himself after leaving office. It, therefore, said it would be wrong for it to be accused of fighting corruption without any clear strategy. Rather, it said it was being guided by a well-articulated strategy in its fight against corruption in the country. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,  stated this in a statement. Mohammed said, “The strategy has proven so effective and that it has led to, among others, the recovery of 40 brand new SUVs and other vehicles from one former Permanent Secretary who single-handedly appropriated the vehicles to himself when he left office.” He said the Federal Government was not just fixated on prosecution alone but was also taking preventive measures to make corruption unattractive. Mohammed listed the strict enforcement of the T

Shekau vows to continue attacks, military dismisses video

A new video of the factional leader of the Boko Haram terror group, Abubakar Shekau, surfaced online on Thursday, where the fleeing militant leader urged President Muhammadu Buhari to repent while mocking the Nigerian military for claims that it had defeated the terror sect. In the 25-minute video, released by the Paris-based AFP, Shekau, who spoke in Hausa and Arabic, debunked claims of victory by the military. The video, which Shekau claimed was made on Christmas Day, had the sect leader and some of his armed-hooded lieutenants with military hardware in the background. He said the announcement by the military that it had won the war was an excuse for their exhaustion. Shekau said, “My message is to you Buhari. Your age is up to 72 years, fear Allah. Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), while in Medina, wrote letters to leaders. “There was one who repented and became a Muslim; Buhari, repent. In this old age, you have been tied; if you don’t repent, you will see. Wallahi (By Allah), if

Woman viciously attacked by her pitbull dogs

Makhala Ramaela got a pair of pit bull dogs for protection after her house was burglarized several times. The 47-year-old from G Section in Botshabelo, South Africa, was last Saturday, viciously mauled by the same dogs. Makhala, who is recovering at Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein, is puzzled by what made her beloved dogs turn against her. She said she had been living alone for a long time and thugs were terrorising her. Five years ago she decided to get the dogs. The dogs – a bitch named Siby and a male named Rex – eventually built a loving and protective relationship with her.     "I managed to tame them and fed them every morning before work. My dogs loved me. I would find them peering over the devils’ fork waiting for me after work. They would jump with joy as I entered the yard," she said. But on Saturday the dogs attacked her viciously.     "I was shocked and realised something was not right. I screamed for help as the dogs started to attack. I thought I could

Glo grows Nigeria’s internet subscriber base by .3m in October

A total number of 297,623 lines was added to Nigeria’s internet subscriber base in one month, courtesy of grandmasters of data, Globacom, which moved from 26,887,929 data customers in September to 27,185,552 in October. This was gleaned from telecom industry statistics published on the website of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) which showed that Globacom was the only network that recorded an increase in its internet subscriber base in the month of October, 2016. On the contrary, MTN and Etisalat had their subscriber figures whittled down during the period, while Airtel did not record any increase in the month under review. Globacom’s increase in internet subscriber base has, therefore, reconfirmed its position as the number one company in Nigeria’s data market, thus living up to the payoff, “Grand masters of Data.” It will be recalled that Globacom became the first network to launch a nationwide rollout of the 4G LTE advanced network in October through which subscribers on t
