Gowon, Nyako, gov lead prayers for Buhari in Adamawa

A former Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), and a former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, have led thousands of Nigerians in praying for President Muhammadu Buhari’s recovery and stability of the nation.

The prayers took place simultaneously in two locations in Adamawa State, with both Christians and Muslim faithful affirming their confidence in the All Progressives Congress government at the state and federal levels.

The state, which became a prayer ground of sorts on Sunday, also witnessed intercessory prayers led by a political group, Buhari/Osinbajo Again.

The leader of BOA, Yaya Hammajulde, during the prayers, urged all Nigerians to pray for the ailing President.

Gowon, while leading Christian faithful at the annual convention of the Diocesan Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria in Demsa for divine intervention in the health of the President, said the survival of the nation lay in the tolerance of adherents of both religions.

He said, “We are all God’s children; this is the time our unity as a people will also be put to test. For me, the survival of the nation lies in our tolerance. If it is well with President Muhammadu Buhari, it will be well with our nation.

“So, we all need to come together, irrespective of our religion, to ask for divine intervention in the health of the President as well as his speedy recovery.”

The Adamawa State Governor, Muhammad Jibrilla, said every Nigerian needed to pray for Buhari as it was ordained in the Bible.

“I beg all of you in the name of God to respect and honour your leaders. So, let us pray for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari because that is what God commanded us concerning our leaders.  We all voted for Buhari; we will also pray for him together,” he said.

BOA also staged a rally in Yola, urging Nigerians to pray for Buhari.

At a separate special prayer event convened by BOA at the APC party secretariat, Nyako said the people of the North-East would continue to pray for the President for his quick return to the country.

Nyako, represented by his son, Senator Abdul’Aziz Nyako, while noting that no vacuum had been created by the leave of the President, commended the pragmatic steps being taken by the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in moving the nation forward.

Some of the APC chieftains, who attended the event, described Buhari as the pillar holding the nation together.
