Jose Mourinho tells Henrikh Mkhitaryan to "play with more aggression" to earn Manchester United place

Jose Mourinho has challenged Henrikh Mkhitaryan to reproduce form he showed against Feyenoord when Manchester United return to the Premier League.

The Armenian, a £26million summer signing from Borussia Dortmund, has endured a difficult first campaign in the English game but returned to Mourinho's first team on Thursday as United swept aside the Eredivisie leaders 4-0.

Mourinho has suggested the 27-year-old midfielder needed a less pressurised platform to prove his class and Mkhitaryan answered the call with an impressive display.

Now Mourinho wants him to step to the next level and it is set to mean Mkhitaryan will get more minutes on Sunday at Old Trafford against West Ham.

“He needs now to replicate this kind of performance in the Premier League,” Mourinho said via the Manchester Evening News.

“The Europa League is different, he needs one more step and it gives him the right to believe he can play in the next match and play with more physicality, more aggression.

“But he has the quality and that is why we bought him.”
