A Cessna 310 crashed at 4:45 pm on the airport’s north-south runway and became completely engulfed in flames
Four people on board were killed as the aircraft set ablaze
The flames then spread to nearby vegetation and a car
Authorities in northern California say a small private plane crashed at the airport in the town of Columbia, killing all four people on board.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department says the plane, a Cessna 310, crashed and was fully engulfed in flames.
Tuolumne-Calaveras Cal Fire said the crash Wednesday caused a small vegetation fire that was quickly extinguished.
The plane was reportedly coming in from the north and tried to land on the runway.
As it did so, it veered off into some vegetation in a field and the plane set on fire.
The National Transportation Safety Board will arrive from Colorado on Thursday morning to oversee an investigation into the accident.
